Today is a day of remembrance. A day to give thanks to that legion of men and women who chose to place themselves between the wars desolation and their own native land.
These were individuals who gambled their lives to insure that this nation of ours would survive along with its laws, customs and beliefs intact; unfettered by tyranny from outside forces. Many gave their lives for that noble cause and to them we pay a special homage on this day.
Formerly known as Armistice Day, which was the official end of World War I in 1918, the day was renamed Veterans Day by Congress in 1954 to honor all veterans.
So, it to all those who served in all the battlefields of every armed conflict since the "Great War" we give our most sincere thanks as we bow our heads in honor of the sacrifice they made that has preserved us as a nation.
Taps
Day is done,
Gone the sun,
From the lakes
From the hills,
From the sky,
All is well,
Safely, rest
God is near.
Fading light,
Dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky,
Gleaming bright,
From afar,
Drawing, near,
Falls the night.
Thanks and praise,
Four our days,
Neath the sun
Neath the stars
Neath the sky,
As we go,
This, we know,
God is near.
